SUMMER

© Jana Sinclair

Each summer Cimarron bustles like it did in the old days of the Santa Fe Trail.  The arid climate makes Cimarron an idea get-a-way for a week or two.  Late in the summer we usually have afternoon thunderstorms.  Nights are cool and make for perfect sleeping weather.

More than 20,000 Scouts and their families make the trek to Philmont Scout Ranch each summer. In fact, since 1939, more than 650,000 campers and advisors have adventured through some 138,000 acres of land.

IThe Maverick Club Rodeo each 4th of July is the longest running open rodeo in the southwest. A dance and parade kick of the event.

The summer stays busy right up through Labor Day when we host Old Cimarron Days along the Santa Fe Trail. Arts and crafts by local artisans will be on display, and we'll have lots of activities too.
